Dana is a seventh grader this year. Although he has always been a fast runner, he was never motivated to use this skill. In fact, he was so unmotivated that he never finished whatever running event was going on in gym class because, "I got kinda tired." This lack of motivation was evident in many areas.
Last spring, he asked if he could join the middle school track team. Joy! Elation! Track season had already started before he was motivated enough to bring it up, but we were nonetheless very excited. This fall, he joined the middle school cross country team. On time. His first meet was at home, and LB and I were able to watch.
He was very glad to see us.
The 7th and 8th grade boys run the mile as one group. Dana is a bit smaller than most of his teammates.
The shorts stay on better if you tuck the shirt into them.
He saved some for the last stretch, surprising and confusing four boys who expected to finish ahead of him. He finished 11th -- I think there were around 30 boys in his group. The operative word is "finished."
His time was 6 minutes, twenty seconds. Yeah, I don't really know what that means, either.
