This is -- hopefully -- part one of a two part "before and after" post on the miracle of blocking.
Here's the back of the Major Tom scarf, completed puckered and pinched as knit checkerboard always looks before it is blocked.
The entire scarf leans to the left (everything I knit leans to the left before blocking, which I'm guessing is a leftie problem), giving the impression that the words are quietly shifting off the front and onto the back of the scarf.
These faults will magically disappear after blocking. The words will all be on the front of the scarf. The phoney side seam will look like a seam instead of an irregularly dropped stitch. And the checkerboard will lie nice and flat.
